  • Dr. Nelson offers two consultation types: one for rehabilitation and another for strength & conditioning-climbing training.

    After selecting your consultation type, you’ll choose from several program options (single-phase, two-phase, or three-phase) that vary in length and the number of included follow-ups.

    The primary difference between these options is the program duration and the level of ongoing support.

    Remote consultations will be conducted via Zoom, and you’ll receive a link upon booking your appointment.

  • Dr. Nelson specializes in rehabilitating musculoskeletal injuries, from low back and neck pain to ankle sprains and post-surgical knee rehabilitation.

    His primary focus is upper extremity injuries from repetitive rock climbing and training. These include pulley injuries, tenosynovitis, capsulitis, TFCC sprains, elbow tendinitis, rotator cuff tears, labral tears, and other joint-related pain.

  • A single-phase is ideal if you've already worked with another professional and are looking for a second opinion or need minor modifications to your existing routine. It’s also suitable for a follow-up appointment to manage a more chronic injury.

    A two- or three-phase package is often more effective for acute injuries, particularly those involving the wrist or fingers.

    The rehabilitation process is dynamic and requires us to work closely to understand your load tolerance, make necessary adjustments, and progress accordingly. This approach allows for ongoing feedback, modifications, and optimization of your recovery plan

  • Athletes often see progress relatively quickly when working with Dr. Nelson, but the timeline can vary depending on several factors.

    Reducing pain and improving performance is a multifaceted process that includes unloading the affected tissue, optimizing diet, improving sleep habits, and gradually reloading and strengthening the area. While it’s challenging to predict the exact speed of progress, most athletes experience noticeable improvements quickly because we address all these factors simultaneously.

  • Our rehabilitation services do not operate through traditional health insurance, allowing us to provide a personalized, comprehensive approach without the constraints of insurance limitations. This ensures that your unique needs are prioritized for the best possible care.

    However, we do accept Health Savings Account (HSA) payments, and upon request, we can provide a detailed bill that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out-of-network coverage

  • Climbers who work with Dr. Nelson for strength and conditioning benefit from a structured and physiologically tailored training plan that aligns with their specific goals, schedules, equipment availability, and timelines.

    Each plan is customized, ensuring it meets the unique needs of the individual climber. The process includes in-depth education, testing, and helping climbers understand how to train effectively and safely.

    For in-person clients, performance testing is held at The Bouldering Project in downtown Salt Lake City, which includes: Whole-body and finger strength - Whole-body power and contact strength - Finger anaerobic and Finger aerobic capacity.
